About this Nominee
Kalamazoo Housing Advocates (KHA) was founded in 2022 to address the growing crisis of housing insecurity in Kalamazoo County, and in just a few years has become a trusted lifeline for families facing housing instability. Our mission is to walk alongside individuals experiencing housing insecurity by offering loving support, education, and advocacy in collaboration with community partners and housing providers.
Through our flagship Housing Stability Program, Serenity House transitional housing for families with young children, financial wellness education, and our Housing Advocacy Collective, KHA meets families where they are and walks with them toward lasting stability.
In 2025 alone, KHA served 125 households, maintained a 95% housing retention rate, and disbursed more than $118,000 in direct financial assistance to families in crisis, including support for 81 households with children, representing 57 children directly stabilized. Every client works with a dedicated housing advocate who builds a personalized plan addressing the whole family's needs, not just the immediate crisis.
As eviction filings and homelessness rates in Kalamazoo County reach their highest levels in over a decade, KHA's growth reflects both the urgency of this moment and the community's trust in our approach: one rooted in dignity, partnership, and the belief that everyone deserves the tools to secure and sustain safe, affordable housing.
