Housing Resources Inc

About this Nominee

Originally named Center City Housing, HRI was founded in 1982 in response to the mass displacement of very low-income single adults from the last of the community’s old residential hotels. This crisis served to focus attention on the issue of homelessness, as well as the lack of safe and affordable housing opportunities. In 1988, our name was changed to Housing Resources, Inc. and we received our first grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to operate a program for thirty-five units of transitional housing.

Today, HRI provides the following services to help low-income families achieve stable housing:
• Information, assistance, and referral; and,
• Coordinated Entry – a process to ensure that all people experiencing a housing crisis have fair and equal access and are identified, assessed for, referred, and connected to housing and assistance based on their strengths and needs; and,
• Homeless Prevention (HP) financial assistance and housing case management
• Homeless Assistance through financial assistance and housing case management
• Permanent supportive housing (PSH) for homeless families where a family member has a disabling condition.
• Specialized services for families with school aged children through the Family Stability for Educational Success (Siemer Institute for Family Stability and United Way)
• Special Projects Response to community needs such as tornado/disaster relief and winter shelter access.
